A senior US Department of Justice (DOJ) official said that he plans to personally meet Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite serving a 20-year prison sentence, to ask what she knows about others involved in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking network. The announcement by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche marks a significant shift in approach by the Donald Trump administration amid mounting pressure to reveal more details from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Todd Blanche said, “If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say." Todd Blanche added that “at the direction of Attorney General [Pam] Bondi, I have communicated with counsel for Ms. Maxwell to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department." He confirmed, “I anticipate meeting with Ms. Maxwell in the coming days."

Todd Blanche’s post emphasized that this would be the first outreach of its kind from the DOJ, writing, “Until now, no administration on behalf of the Department had inquired about her willingness to meet with the government. That changes now."

He also reaffirmed the department’s commitment to pursue leads in the case, asserting, “The Department of Justice does not shy away from uncomfortable truths, nor from the responsibility to pursue justice wherever the facts may lead."

Ghislaine Maxwell Likely To Cooperate

Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorney David Oscar Markus confirmed ongoing discussions with the government. He wrote on X, “I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully. We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case."

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in 2021 for recruiting and grooming underage girls for Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal child sex trafficking charges.

Donald Trump Under Scrutiny Over Jeffrey Epstein Ties

The potential meeting between Ghislaine Maxwell and the DOJ comes after weeks of criticism over the Donald Trump administration’s decision to pull back on previously stated plans to release Jeffrey Epstein-related investigative files. Donald Trump, a former acquaintance of Jeffrey Epstein, dismissed the backlash as a partisan attack and called for transparency.

The Justice Department and FBI said earlier this month that a full review of Jeffrey Epstein’s files “uncovered no evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties."
