Israeli strikes and tank shelling across Gaza killed four Palestinians on Sunday, including a 13-year-old girl. The deaths underscore how the October ceasefire remains fragile as violence and competing claims continue.

Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday killed at least four Palestinians, including a 13-year-old girl, according to local health officials. The Israeli military said one of the strikes targeted a "Hamas terrorist", but did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the other attacks.
Palestinians also reported heavy tank shelling across Gaza and quadcopters buzzing overhead, even as the heaviest fighting has eased since a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was reached in October. Local officials say people continue to be killed almost daily, while Israel says it targets Hamas and other militants who pose a threat and acts in response to ceasefire violations.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, the first strike hit a group of people in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, killing two people and wounding another. In southern Gaza, another Israeli strike killed a man, health officials at Nasser hospital said.
Nasser hospital also said 13-year-old Eileen al-Farra was killed by shrapnel from Israeli tank shelling in southern Gaza. Palestinians on Sunday said tank shelling was heavy in different parts of the territory, with quadcopters, a type of unmanned aerial vehicle, flying overhead.
Israel has killed more than 1,040 people in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which is part of the Hamas-led government. The ministry keeps detailed casualty records that are seen as generally reliable by United Nations agencies and independent experts. It does not distinguish between civilians and militants, but says women and children make up around half of those killed. Israel has said five of its soldiers have been killed since the ceasefire.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel killed about 1,200 people and saw 251 taken hostage. Since then, Israel's offensive in Gaza has killed more than 73,050 Palestinians, including those killed since the ceasefire, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, as fresh strikes and shelling continue to be reported across the territory.
