Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK)’s Joint Awami Action Committee has refused to hold any further talks with the Pakistan government, accusing it of failing to implement commitments made under an agreement signed on October 4 this year, CNN-News18 has learnt from exclusive documents.
In a strong letter addressed to the minister for Kashmir affairs, government of Pakistan, the committee said the agreement clearly stated that all demands would be fulfilled within 90 days. With only four days remaining before the deadline, the committee alleged that none of the key assurances have been implemented.
The committee also rejected the government’s proposal for additional meetings, stating that discussions would resume only after the demands are fully met. “Fulfil demands first—no further talks," the committee asserted, accusing the government of adopting delaying tactics.
According to the committee, while the agreement mandated review meetings every 15 days, only two meetings were held over the past three months. It further alleged that several provisions of the agreement have been violated, including the failure to remove names of prominent committee members from the Exit Control List (ECL), withdrawal of FIRs, and resolution of issues related to refugee seats.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a senior member of the committee, said the recent move by the federal government to form a committee just as the agreement’s deadline is about to expire is a “stalling and delaying tactic". He added that the committee would not participate in any further meetings until concrete action is taken.
On Wednesday, the federal government constituted a committee specifically to address the issue of refugee seats. However, the committee maintained that partial measures and last-minute steps cannot substitute for full implementation of the agreed terms.
The committee has also indicated that it is preparing to launch protests against the Pakistan government if the demands continue to remain unmet.
