If flattery were an Olympic sport, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would be standing tall on the podium — gold medal in hand. At least, that’s how former Pakistani ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani sees it.

Reacting to Sharif’s latest round of praise for Donald Trump, Haqqani quipped on X:

“Pakistan’s PM still in the lead for Gold in what @FareedZakaria surmised might be the Olympic Sport of flattering Trump.”

Haqqani’s remark came after the Pakistani PM hailed Trump for his instrumental role in advancing global peace through a series of international accords — including the newly signed Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Cambodia and Thailand.

“Another historic day for peace and diplomacy!” Sharif posted on X. “My deep appreciation to President Donald Trump for his instrumental role in advancing peace through the KL Accord, the Gaza Peace Plan, and his resolute efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East and South Asia — saving millions of lives across the globe.”

Sharif went on to congratulate Cambodia and Thailand for signing the accord and lauded Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his “tireless pursuit of peace and harmony in the region.”

This isn’t Sharif’s first public display of admiration for Trump. Earlier this month, during the Peace Summit in Egypt, the Pakistani premier described Trump as a man of peace and reminded the audience that Pakistan had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“I genuinely feel he is the most genuine and most wonderful candidate for the Peace Prize because he has brought peace in South Asia, saving millions of people,” Sharif had said, calling Trump a great president and praising his exemplary leadership.
