Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made explosive allegations against Iran, claiming the regime tried to assassinate former US President Donald Trump not once, but twice—labeling him “enemy number one" for standing firmly against Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

“They want to kill him. He’s enemy number one," Netanyahu told Fox News, adding, “He’s a decisive leader… He took up this fake agreement and basically tore it up. He killed Qasem Soleimani. He made it very clear, including now, ‘You cannot have a nuclear weapon, which means you cannot enrich uranium.’ He’s been very forceful, so for them, he’s enemy number one."

Netanyahu said he too had been targeted by Iran after a missile was fired into the bedroom of his home. Calling himself Trump’s “junior partner" in efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons program, the Israeli leader described the situation as an urgent existential crisis.

“We were facing an imminent threat, a dual existential threat," he said. “One, the threat of Iran rushing to weaponise their enriched uranium to make atomic bombs… Second, a rush to increase their ballistic missile arsenal… Within three years, 10,000 ballistic missiles… No country can sustain that… so we had to act."

Speaking earlier, Netanyahu linked Iran’s broader aggression to a history of attacks against the United States. “The Iranian regime is bombing our civilian neighborhoods while we are targeting the terrorists. Now, this is not new. They’ve tried to assassinate President Trump twice. They bombed American Embassies. They killed 241 Marines in Beirut."

“They killed and injured thousands of Americans with their IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan. They burn the American flag, they chant endlessly ‘death to America,’" he added.

He also thanked the US Army on its 250th anniversary. “We would not have a free world without you… Our enemy is your enemy. And by doing what we’re doing, we’re dealing with something that will threaten all of us sooner or later. Our victory will be your victory."

Netanyahu said Israel’s recent military campaign, Operation Rising Lion, had significantly set back Iran’s nuclear program. He dismissed any faith in diplomacy with Iran, calling negotiations with the regime “going nowhere," and reaffirmed Israel’s readiness to eliminate the Iranian threat at any cost.

Addressing the people of Iran, Netanyahu said they had suffered under a regime that “has long threatened to destroy the State of Israel," adding, “we are protecting not just ourselves, but the world."
