The bromance between US President Donald Trump and the world's richest person, Elon Musk, is ending just as their relationship started — quickly, intensely, and out in the open.

Amid a very public fallout with President Donald Trump, Elon Musk has hinted that he may create a new political party. Their once-close alliance has quickly turned into a bitter feud.

On Thursday, Musk posted a poll on X (formerly Twitter), asking users if it was time to form a new political party. "Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?" Musk wrote.

This is part of a flurry of social media posts in which the Tesla CEO openly criticised Trump's bill. One of Musk's most striking comments was, "Without me, Trump would have lost the election." He later added, "Such ingratitude."

TRUMP RESPONDS WITH THREATS, CALLS MUSK DISLOYAL

Donald Trump didn't hold back. The president fired back through his Truth Social posts. He said he was "very disappointed" in Musk, who had once been a loyal supporter and even a White House insider.

Trump took things a step further and threatened to cancel US government contracts and subsidies given to Musk’s companies. "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts," Trump wrote. "I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!"

In the Oval Office, Trump said, "I’ll be honest, I think he missed the place," Trump said, suggesting that Musk regretted leaving the inner circle of power.

HOW CLOSE ALLIES TURNED ENEMIES

Months ago, Musk and Trump shared a close relationship. After Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally last July, Musk pledged support. He also formed a political action committee to back Trump's campaign and made public appearances.

Musk even stood behind Trump during his swearing-in and attended Cabinet meetings. He was often seen wearing MAGA hats and travelling with Trump aboard Air Force One.

But now, that camaraderie has turned to a fierce war of words.

At a recent Oval Office news conference, Musk officially parted ways with Trump. He appeared with a visible black eye, which he said was caused by his young son. Still, many viewed it as a metaphor for his messy time in government service.
