The festival seeks to bring audiences on mainland China closer to the very best of Indian cinema. Talking about the inaugural Kannada film Dollu, Consul General Mathur highlighted that preserving India’s traditional cultural heritage, including folk arts and dances, in keeping with the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", remains a key priority.
The strong impact of Indian culture and cinema on the audience was evident from the houseful screening, which was attended by over 200 Chinese audience members. Several Consul Generals, including those from Iran, Cuba, South Africa, Belarus, and Nigeria, also joined the special screening. The Consul General underlined that, coming a week after the launch of direct flights from Shanghai to New Delhi, the initiative marked a further strengthening of momentum in bilateral people-to-people ties between India and China.
The special screening also featured an interactive Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, during which questions related to the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat theme were posed to all assembled guests and friends of India.
The evening, which evoked an enthusiastic response, concluded with an Indian food festival showcasing culinary delights from across the country. A special coffee promotion event, featuring servings of Indian filter coffee, was warmly received and reflected the rapid strides being made by Indian products in fast-growing global markets, led by Shanghai, which is widely regarded as the regional café capital.
The special evening showcased the growing strengths of India’s soft power across cinema, culture, cuisine, and cultural bonds, helping to further build positive momentum in branding India globally.
