According to the US Geological Survey, the event occurred at a shallow 9-kilometre depth, which tends to make shaking more noticeable across wider areas. Early reports suggested that light to moderate tremors were felt from Coachella Valley through Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Big Bear, and into San Bernardino County.
Meanwhile, no major damage or injuries have been reported in initial assessements from local authorities.
Notably, tremor activity has marked a surge in the region this January, with over 300 events logged up to magnitude 3.3.
