US President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty about his relationship with Elon Musk after the billionaire entrepreneur publicly condemned White House’ $4 trillion spending and tax bill. The Tesla boss took to X (formerly Twitter) to call on Americans to contact their lawmakers, writing, “Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL."

Responding to Elon Musk’s sharp criticism, Donald Trump said, “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. I was surprised."

The US President said that Elon Musk’s issues with the bill were limited to its electric vehicle mandate and insisted that the entrepreneur was fully aware of its contents. Donald Trump said, “He knew every aspect of this bill. And he never had a problem until right after he left…I’m very disappointed with Elon. I helped him a lot."

Elon Musk Reacts To Donald Trump’s Remarks

Elon Musk, who until last week served as a close advisor to Donald Trump as he led the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), labeled the bill an “abomination," sparking a rift between the two high-profile figures.

Disputing Donald Trump’s remarks, Elon Musk said, “False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!"

After his 129-day stint as a “special government employee" tasked with cutting wasteful federal spending, Elon Musk condemned the bill, saying, “Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill. In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that [is] both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this!"

He also reposted memes and comments echoing fears over the growing deficit and even shared a poster of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movie to push his stand against the bill.

Elon Musk Said Bill Will ‘Massively Increase Deficit’

Earlier this week, Elon Musk warned, “America is in the fast lane to debt slavery. A new spending bill should be drafted that doesn’t massively grow the deficit and increase the debt ceiling by 5 TRILLION DOLLARS."

In another post, he said, “This spending Bill contains the largest increase in the debt ceiling in US history! It is the Debt Slavery Bill."

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO previously expressed disappointment at the bill’s financial impact, saying it could “massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion."
