US President Donald Trump on Monday defended his decision to deploy the Guard to California amid the ongoing protest and claimed that his move prevented what he described as the potential “obliteration" of Los Angeles.
In a post shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, he said that the presence of Guards helped contain “violent, instigated riots". He also slammed California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for opposing the move.
“We made a great decision in sending the Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated. The very incompetent “Governor," Gavin Newscum, and “Mayor," Karen Bass, should be saying, “THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR." Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are “peaceful protests."
He argued that images and videos of the unrest reveal significant violence and destruction, justifying federal intervention.
“We will always do what is needed to keep our Citizens SAFE," he said, ending the post with his signature slogan, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
