“I think there is quite a high frequency of contact between the security authorities of the two countries and engagement at various levels," he said. “This remains an important issue."

Foreign Secretary also clarified that the two countries continue to work closely on any matters affecting shared security interests in the region. “We continue to work with the Maldives on any issue that might impinge upon shared security interests in the region," Misri added.

The remarks came after a round of wide-ranging discussions in Male, where India and the Maldives focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, climate, and infrastructure. Security cooperation and mutual understanding of strategic concerns remain central to the bilateral agenda.

The bilateral meeting also saw the inauguration of key projects and signing of numerous agreements, including financial credit lines, trade frameworks, defence support, and environmental collaboration.

Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Muizzu.
