Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused the Congress of ignoring the problems faced by farmers, saying they created such a mess that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) still has to do much more work to rectify their missteps.
Addressing a public rally after the inauguration of a urea plant at the Assam Valley Fertiliser & Chemical Company Ltd in Namrup, Modi said the BJP’s ‘double-engine’ government is very sensitive to the needs of farmers, which is why it provides subsidies for urea imports.
“Among various agricultural welfare initiatives, it is essential to ensure a continuous supply of fertiliser to our farmers. This urea factory will fulfil that need. Approximately Rs 11,000 crore will be invested in this facility, which will produce 12 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser annually. Once production begins here, the supply chain will become more efficient and logistics costs will be significantly reduced," he said.
This is a developing story. More details to be added.
