Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu alleges 'deliberate conspiracy' as allegations of adulterated ghee resurfaces

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hit back at the opposition YSR Congress of ex-CM Jagan Mohan Reddy as fresh allegations of adulterated ingredients used to make laddoos at the famous Tirupati temple surfaced.

Speaking to news agency PTI, CM Naidu described the incident as a “deliberate conspiracy", slamming the previous YSR Congress government over the allegations.

“It is a deliberate conspiracy. One can commit a mistake by ignorance that can be pardoned. But If you do it deliberately, that is not good", the Chief Minister told news agency PTI.

“Suppose ordinary ghee costs Rs 450, somebody’s paying Rs 230. What will they get except for chemical mixing? There are some companies mixing animal/vegetable fat in the ghee", he stated.

Earlier, the ruling TDP had alleged that during the previous YSRCP government, the laddoos were prepared using ghee mixed with “chemicals used to clean bathrooms".

Addressing a village meeting at Kalugotla village in Kurnool district, he alleged that the previous government tried to undermine the prestige of Lord Venkateswara Swamy with adulterated prasadam (devotional offerings).

YSRCP Hits Back

Hitting back at the claims, the YSRCP reminded Naidu, whose TDP is in an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party at the centre, that laddoos were sent to the Pran Pratishtha of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya – a grand event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other dignitaries on January 22, 2024.

Notably, YSR Congress have been arguing that a special team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have a clean chit, stating no adulteration occurred.

At the same time, the TDP boss alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle, YV Subba Reddy, had attempted to block lab reports from surfacing that stated otherwise.

As the political drama intensified, Subba Reddy, a Rajya Sabha MP, refuted the allegations. “If it was suppressed, then why would I even write to CFTRI to test the samples in the first place," he claimed.
