Closing Bell: Indian equities closed largely flat after a choppy session on Tuesday, with losses in IT stocks offset by strength in select PSU, cement and mid-cap names. Coal India extended its winning streak, while Coforge slid sharply on fund-raise concerns. Watch this space for all the updates.

Stock Market Highlights: After a highly volatile session, Indian markets closed largely flat on Tuesday, with the Nifty slipping below the 26,200 mark. The Sensex edged down 43 points to 85,525, while the Nifty eked out a marginal gain of 5 points to 26,177.

Sectorally, Nifty Bank eased 4 points to 59,300, while the Midcap Index inched up 1 point to 60,816. IT stocks snapped a four-day winning streak, with Coforge, Infosys, and Persistent Systems leading losses. Coal India emerged as the top Nifty gainer, rising 4% for a fifth consecutive session.

Among notable movers, Coforge fell nearly 5% ahead of a board meeting on a proposed QIP on December 26. Ambuja and Orient gained nearly 2% and 4% respectively, while ACC slipped 2% following merger updates. Chola Finance shrugged off Cobrapost concerns, rising over 6%, while Meesho declined nearly 30% over three sessions.

Tata Motors PV gained 1% after announcing five new EV launches by FY30. Market breadth favoured advances, with an NSE advance-decline ratio of 3:2.
