The Election Commission of India on Tuesday released the final voter list for poll-bound Bihar after the special intensive revision exercise.

According to data available, a total of 48 lakh voters have been removed from the final electoral roll, while 21 lakh new voters were added to the list. A total of 7.41 crore voters are now eligible to cast their ballot in the upcoming assembly elections.

“In light of the special intensive revision, the final electoral roll has been published on September 30, 2025. Any voter can check their name details in the electoral roll through the provided link," the Election Commission (EC) said.

The final voter list of Bihar is being published following the conclusion of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which was held after a gap of 22 years.

After the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the total number of voters in Bihar stood at 7.89 crore as on June 24. The draft electoral rolls were published on August 1 and were open for “claims and objections" by individuals and political parties till September 1. There were 7.24 crore electors in the draft voter list, with 65 lakh voters removed.

The SIR has come under sharp criticism from the opposition, which has claimed that the process will disenfranchise crores of genuine citizens. The EC, however, has asserted that it will not allow any eligible citizen to be left out of the voter list and, at the same time, not let any ineligible person be on the list.

Now that the final voter list has been published, the EC is likely to follow it up with the announcement of the poll schedule for Bihar next week. It is visiting Patna on October 4 and 5 to take stock of the poll preparedness.

According to sources quoted by PTI, the schedule for the assembly elections is likely to be announced next week. The term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly ends on November 22. The last assembly elections in Bihar were held in three phases in the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first phase of the elections is likely to be held soon after the Chhath festival in late October. A total of 470 observers are being deployed for Bihar and some assembly bypolls. A briefing of general, police and expenditure observers is also set to take place here on October 3.
