A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed in Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday shortly after takeoff, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
According to Bangladeshi news outlet Prothom Alo, the aircraft had departed at 1:06 PM, and the crash occurred soon after in a residential area of Uttara. The Fire Service and Civil Defence later confirmed the death of at least one person in the incident.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Lima Khan, duty officer at the Fire Service control room, said four injured individuals have been taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), following the crash around 1:30 pm.
Initial reports indicate that the F-7 BGI aircraft crashed onto the roof of the canteen at Milestone College. Three units of the Fire Service were deployed, and they were actively working at the crash site to manage the situation.
“The training aircraft crashed at the Milestone School and College in Diabari. Our team has recovered one body. The Air Force has rescued four people with injuries and taken them away," bdnews24 quoted Lima Khanam, duty officer at the Fire Service Central Control Room, as saying.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed. There was no information on the pilots.
Deputy Commissioner Mohidul Islam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Division confirmed that he was en route to the location after being informed of the incident, reported the Bangladeshi news website.
