In a strong message at the United Nations, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called out Pakistan, stressing that state-sponsored terrorism must be exposed and held accountable. Speaking at the UN’s anti-terrorism exhibition, Jaishankar urged the global community to unite against the growing threat of terrorism.
“Any state sponsorship must be exposed and must be counted," Jaishankar said, in a veiled yet pointed reference to Pakistan. Highlighting recent incidents, he reminded that five weeks ago, the UN Security Council issued a strong condemnation of a horrific act of terrorism in Pahalgam, demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Jaishankar outlined the core principles the world must rally behind: “No impunity to terrorists, no treating them as proxies, and no yielding to nuclear blackmail." He called terrorism “one of the gravest threats to humanity" and declared it the “antithesis of everything that the United Nations stands for."
The minister further added, “When terrorism is supported by a state against a neighbour, when it drives a whole host of illegal activities, it is imperative to call it out publicly. One way of doing so is to display the havoc that it has wreaked on global society."
Jaishankar’s remarks have been widely seen as a clear diplomatic signal, urging the international community to take concrete steps against nations that use terrorism as a tool of foreign policy.
Jaishankar Highlights Human Cost of Terrorism
Speaking at the United Nations during the inauguration of an exhibition titled ‘The Human Cost of Terrorism,’ External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed that terrorism remains one of the gravest threats to humanity and must be confronted with zero tolerance. He underlined the need for the world to unite against impunity for terrorists, the use of terrorism as a proxy tool, and nuclear blackmail.
Jaishankar also reminded the gathering of the UN Security Council’s strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. In direct response to the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes reportedly eliminated over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Reinforcing his message, Jaishankar said, “Terrorism is one of the greatest threats to humanity. It is the antithesis of everything that the UN stands for… When terrorism is supported by a state against a neighbour… it is imperative to call it out publicly."
