Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in South Africa for the G20 Summit, held a leaders’ meeting of IBSA on the margins of the summit with Brazilian President Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday, and offered suggestions to boost cooperation among the three countries.
Asserting that IBSA reflects India’s commitment to strengthening the voice of the Global South, PM Modi said on X, “IBSA is no ordinary grouping. It is an important platform that connects three continents, three large democratic powers and three major economies."
“Ours is a bond that is heartfelt, carrying with it diversity, shared values and shared aspirations. All three IBSA nations have held the G20 Presidency in the last three years and have used this opportunity to further the human centric agenda," he added.
From Anti-Terror Coordination To Digital Innovation Alliance
Prime Minister Modi highlighted a few suggestions to deepen IBSA cooperation, such as a unified message to the world that institutional reform is no longer optional, but essential. “It is a reality that global institutions are far removed from the realities of the 21st century. This has to change," he said.
The PM also suggested close coordination among the partners in the fight against terror, without any room for double standards on the issue. He also suggested the creation of an IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance that will leverage technology for human-centric development.
Modi also suggested an IBSA fund for climate-resilient agriculture, citing its importance for food security and sustainability.
