Donald Trump responded to newly-elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s challenge with a terse Truth Social post, saying, “And so it begins!”

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday fired back at newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, with a terse post on Truth Social.
On his official handle, Trump wrote, “And so it begins!", hours after Mamdani, the 34-year-old Democrat, used his victory speech to directly challenge the President.
Mamdani, addressing his supporters, had said, “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!"
The exchange marks the opening salvo in what is expected to be a high-stakes political clash between the mayor and the Republican President.
Mamdani has pledged to make countering Trump’s immigration policies and “authoritarian tendencies" central to his administration, while Trump has already warned of potential federal funding cuts to the city under Mamdani’s leadership.
