Amazon has launched tablets and e-readers but now it wants to compete in the high-end market with its own foldable laptop.

Amazon wants a piece of the foldable segment with its own laptop
Amazon could make a surprising dive into the laptop segment and it even plans to bring a product featuring a foldable screen. Yes, the company which makes the Fire TV Stick and Kindle e-reader seems keen on trying its luck in the PC market once again.
The details about the foldable laptop come via Ming-Chi Kuo who is reliable with his Apple inventory news. Huawei launched its own foldable laptop in China recently and Kuo suggests Amazon could follow the same product strategy for its own plans.
Amazon Laptop Plans: What Kuo Says
Huawei’s foldable laptop features an 18-inch screen that folds into a 13-inch form factor. Kuo claims the Amazon version will have a faster launch timeline compared to Apple, with late 2026 or early 2027 release not being ruled out. Apple has its own foldable ambitions but the first product could be an iPad rather than a MacBook.
Amazon is unlikely to use Windows or Android to power the laptop so what platform will be powering this device? We do expect the company to use the Fire OS version with a forked interface mimicking Windows 11 which seems quite possible. The company is said to be working on plans to move out of Android for its devices like Huawei’s HarmonyOS and we could see that work out nicely for its rumoured foldable laptop ambitions.
Kuo does not share those details and it is possible that we might hear more concrete news about the product closer to launch in 2026.
Huawei claims the MateBook Fold Ultimate remains sleek and portable. The foldable notebook weighs just 1.16kg, and it folds down to compact 14.9mm and unfolds to mere 7.3mm thanks to a smart build that incorporates a three-layer aluminum alloy frame and an ultra-slim PCB.
The foldable design supports multiple use modes. Open it halfway to use it like a conventional laptop with a virtual keyboard, or fully expand it into a large touchscreen that can be used in either portrait or landscape orientation. A built-in kickstand adds to its versatility, making it ideal for watching videos or performing productivity tasks.
