Donald Trump plans to speak with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy after expressing disappointment over a call with Putin.

US President Donald Trump is expected to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, just a day after expressing deep disappointment over a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that yielded no progress toward ending the war in Ukraine.
“I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin," Donald Trump said, adding, “I don’t think he’s looking to stop the war, and that’s too bad."
What Zelenskyy Said On Talks With Donald Trump
Zelenskyy confirmed that he hopes to speak with Donald Trump as early as Friday. The planned conversation comes at a sensitive time for Kyiv, following the Pentagon’s recent confirmation that it is pausing certain weapons deliveries to Ukraine- including Patriot missile systems and precision-guided munitions- citing depleted US stockpiles.
Donald Trump defended the pause, blaming the Joe Biden administration for overextending US military resources, as he said, “We’re giving weapons, but we’ve given so many weapons. Biden emptied out our whole country… We have to make sure we have enough for ourselves."
What Vladimir Putin Told Donald Trump On Ukraine War
The US President’s call with Vladimir Putin, which lasted nearly an hour, was the sixth between the two leaders since Donald Trump began his second term in January. While the Kremlin said Vladimir Putin showed “readiness" to seek a political solution, he also reaffirmed Russia’s refusal to abandon what it calls the “root causes" of the war- a reference to NATO’s expansion and Western military support for Kyiv.
Within hours of the Donald Trump-Vladimir Putin call, Russian drone attacks ignited fires in a Kyiv suburb and shelling in eastern Ukraine killed at least five people, according to local authorities.

When asked if he had moved closer to a deal to end the war, Donald Trump replied, “No, I didn’t make any progress with him at all"- referring to Vladimir Putin. Despite frustrations with both Moscow and Kyiv, Donald Trump emphasized that the US is still “working with" Ukraine.
