An elderly Australian woman was found dead on Lizard Island after being left behind by the Coral Adventurer cruise ship. Queensland Police and AMSA are investigating the incident

An 80-year-old Australian woman was found dead on a Great Barrier Reef island after she was left behind by the cruise ship she was travelling on.
According to CNN, the passenger, who hasn’t been named, was reported missing to authorities on Saturday night, when a check of small cruise ship the Coral Adventurer confirmed she wasn’t on board.
The woman was reportedly hiking on Lizard Island along with fellow passengers on Saturday but likely got broken off from the group to have a rest.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said they along with Queensland Police began search for the woman after the ship’s captain reported the woman missing.
They further said that its investigation will include “the circumstances surrounding why the passenger may not have been accounted for during boarding".
CNN quoted the AMSA as saying that the crew will be questioned when the ship docks in Darwin, scheduled to dock on November 2.
Queensland Police said the woman’s body was found on Sunday and described her death as “sudden and non-suspicious".
They said the woman was reported missing “after failing to board a vessel in waters off Queensland earlier on Saturday."
“While investigations into the incident are continuing, we are deeply sorry that this has occurred and are offering our full support to the woman’s family. The Coral team have been in contact with the woman’s family, and we will continue to offer support to them through this difficult process," Coral Expeditions chief executive Mark Fifield said.
