At least three police personnel were killed and eight others injured in separate attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Monday. The attacks took place in the Lakki Marwat, Tank and Swat districts.
The police personnel killed in the attacks were identified as Police Constable Sajjad Hussain, who was killed in a TTP attack in Tank; Assistant Sub-Inspector Mumtaz Ali of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, who was killed in an attack in the Lakki Marwat area; and Police Constable Hammad, who was killed in an attack in Swat.
Security sources said the attacks were carried out by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). According to intelligence reports, the group is planning more major attacks on Pakistani security forces as it restructures and prepares its strategy for 2026. The recent strikes are believed to have been coordinated to test police response time and control in relatively soft districts.
Intelligence inputs suggest the TTP is exploiting local recruitment networks, night-time movement and gaps in police infrastructure.
The group is said to be highly active in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Malakand belt. Sources described the attacks as part of a phased escalation plan aimed at weakening the morale of the provincial police, before shifting focus to high-value military targets in the coming year.
