You should not be here: Trump confronts CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins at UN

US President Donald Trump confronted CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins at the United Nations on Tuesday, telling her that the network "should not be here" shortly after he arrived to address the General Assembly.

Trump's remarks came days after his administration barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from accessing the White House. The three news organisations have sued the administration, arguing that the restrictions violate First Amendment protections.

As Trump arrived at the UN headquarters in New York, Collins asked him about Russian President Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine.

Trump replied: "Settle the war."

He then turned his attention to Collins and said: "I'm surprised that CNN is here covering me. You shouldn't be here ... You said you weren't going to cover me."

Trump's exchange with Collins came amid an increasingly contentious relationship between his administration and several news organisations. The White House announced the press-access restrictions over the weekend, accusing the outlets of biased coverage of the president.

Trump was at the UN to deliver his address to the General Assembly at a time of heightened tensions over the Iran war, uncertainty over the global economy and growing debate over the role of artificial intelligence.

Before entering the UN, Trump described addressing the organisation as an "honor". He is also scheduled to hold meetings with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
