Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has taken a sharp swipe at US President Donald Trump, using fuel prices to mock Washington’s latest threat to choke off Iran’s maritime access.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf ridiculed the US warning of a naval blockade targeting ships entering or leaving Iranian ports, suggesting the move could backfire economically on American consumers.
He shared an image showing petrol prices near the White House and warned that current rates may soon seem like a bargain.
“Enjoy the current pump figures,” he wrote, cautioning that Americans could soon grow “nostalgic” for $4–$5 per gallon fuel if tensions escalate.
The remarks came as the US military signalled plans to begin enforcing a blockade on maritime traffic linked to Iran starting from 7.30 pm tonight, raising the stakes in an already volatile standoff in the region.
