Who'll bring mad murderers to justice? Taslima Nasreen on Hindu man's lynching

A video circulating on social media shows Dipu Chandra Das talking to men in what appears to be police uniforms shortly before he was killed by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh.

Exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, known for her autobiography Amar Meyebela, shared a sequence of events on X suggesting that the police may have been involved in Das’s lynching and questioned who will bring the perpetrators of the murder to justice.

In the video, 25-year-old Das, wearing a blue full-sleeve sweatshirt and trousers and barefoot, is seen trying to explain something, far from Dhaka, where violent protests erupted over the assassination of anti-India leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

Taslima Nasreen, in her post on X, said that Das worked at a factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, and was a poor labourer. She said a Muslim coworker, upset over a trivial issue, publicly accused Das of making derogatory remarks about the Prophet. This allegation led a mob to attack Das.

Nasreen added that the police rescued him and took him into custody, meaning he was under police protection at the time.

Nasreen alleged that Dipu Chandra Das told the police he was innocent and that the accusations against him were a conspiracy by a coworker, but the police did not take action against the coworker.
