A family dispute took a deadly turn when an Indian-origin man, Vijay Kumar, killed his wife and three other relatives during an argument on Friday in the state of Georgia, US.
Kumar was arrested for allegedly shooting his wife and three relatives in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The 51-year-old is believed to have killed his wife and three others after a domestic dispute, said the police.
When the tragic incident occurred, the children were also present in the home in Lawrenceville city in Atlanta’s suburbs. The three children ran and hid themselves inside the closet, and one of them managed to dial 911.
Who Is Vijay Kumar?
Vijay Kumar is a 51-year-old Indian-origin man who was living in Georgia with his wife and three children. He allegedly shot his wife, Meemu Dogra (43), during an argument.
Along with his wife, he also killed his three relatives, Gourav Cumar (33, Lawrenceville), Nidhi Chander (37, Lawrenceville), and Harish Chander (38, Lawrenceville).
Seeing the violence, Kumar’s 12-year-old child dialled 911. The police located Kumar at a short distance from his residence, and he was taken into custody.
The Indian-origin man has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault. He is also facing four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder, one count of cruelty to children in the first degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, according to the police department’s statement.
The authorities have not released any further information about the suspect.
How The Tragedy Unfolded
The incident took place after an argument broke out between Kumar and Dogra in their home in Atlanta. The husband and wife, along with their 12-year-old kid, went to the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville, where their relatives were living.
The relatives were living with two children – a 10-year-old and a seven-year-old.
It was 2:30 am local time when Gwinnett County Police responded to reports of firing inside a residence. The police found three children hidden inside a closet.
The children, who had hidden themselves in the closet to save themselves during the shooting, were not injured.
