WhatsApp is now offering a clear label for message encryption

WhatsApp chats and other contents are encrypted and now the messaging app tells you its security level with a clear label.

WhatsApp chats are end-to-end encrypted but most people would say the messaging app doesn’t show it to everyone. But soon, you will see the settings change as the encryption label is now coming to the profile icon on top of the chat screen. The new feature is being tested with the beta users as per the latest details and we can independently confirm the details.

WABetainfo was the first to report on the feature being tested, and those using the Android beta version will start seeing the new change in the next few days.

WhatsApp has always talked highly about its privacy features, especially the level of encryption your chats, videos and other content get on the platform. If you have got the WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.3.17 update, you might see the end-to-end encrypted label right below the contact or group name. We even noticed the new label showing up on the WhatsApp web beta version this week.

WhatsApp users had to go through multiple loops to see if their chats are encrypted, but that changes now. The beta version rolling out to select users suggests the final release is not far away and we might get the new label for all WhatsApp users very soon.

It is likely that WhatsApp wants to inform users about its security level now that the messaging app is becoming interoperable in the EU after the new rules come into effect this month. It is likely that people cross-messaging from WhatsApp would know that all their content sent through other apps will also be encrypted to the highest standards.
