Epic Games is the maker of popular titles like Fortnite which has battled with giants like Apple over its app store fees.

After a long time, the wait is finally going to be over as the Epic Games Store is set to arrive on iOS and Android by the end of this year. The company has revealed this exciting update via a post on X which talks about its mobile app store making an appearance on the Apple and Google platforms before the end of 2024.

As reported by Pocketgamer, Epic Games General Manager Steve Allison said the company had ‘tirelessly been fighting’ against the gatekeepers on mobile during the State of Unreal Event at GDC. This was a notable dig aimed at companies like Apple and Google who have dominated the mobile app store segment in the last few years.

Allison also revealed that their upcoming mobile app will be a first-ever, games-focused multi-platform. They would also be releasing new self-publishing tools specifically for mobile to help developers share their creations on the upcoming app.

The State of Unreal Event saw Epic Games claim that the company would follow the existing terms for their Game Store on PC on their mobile app as well. This means that developers will get to keep 88 per cent of the revenue generated by the game with the 12 percent going to Epic. These margins are significantly lower than the Apple App Store and Google Play Store cuts of 30 percent.

As for the games, there has been no word from Epic Games as to what titles users may see launch with the upcoming mobile app. They will likely be providing more updates on the subject in the future.

Since its launch almost six years ago, the Epic Games Store has garnered worldwide attention, especially for giving away high-end game copies on a frequent note. Some of the flagship gaming titles given away by the company in the past include Grand Theft Auto V, Just Cause 4 and Control. The Epic Games Store also features some widely played eSports titles across the world including games like Fortnite and Rocket League. It is the same company that develops Unreal Engine which is used at the heart of several games.
