Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a Babri Masjid structure in Murshidabad, triggering a fresh political row in West Bengal. Just hours after the event, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar hit back, raising the issue of Ram Mandir construction and criticising the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government.

BJP Targets Mamata Banerjee Government

Speaking soon after the ceremony, Majumdar said the incident reflected long-standing issues with the state’s political approach.

He stated, “What we are seeing today is a reflection of Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement and communal politics over the past 15 years. Mamata Banerjee has full support for this. Even today, Humayun Kabir has stated that we are receiving full cooperation from the police. If Mamata Banerjee truly does not want the Babri Masjid to be built, she should have arrested Humayun Kabir."

He further questioned the police response, saying, “We will also construct a Ram Mandir in Mushidabad. Even today, our people organised a Ram Puja there, and in the future a grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple will take place."

Governor Calls For Peace, Monitors Law And Order

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose responded later in the day, saying the administration had been instructed to maintain complete peace during the event.

Commenting on the ceremony, he said, “I had given strict instructions that law and order must be maintained.

It is the state government’s duty to take necessary action. Today, there was a peaceful procession.

The event was carried out in a very peaceful manner. We are watching that under no circumstances will anybody be allowed to take the law into their hands. What we need is peace in society.

I appreciate and compliment the people of Bengal for taking this event very calmly and peacefully. The High Court has also made it very clear that it is the duty of the state government to maintain the joint order. As governor, I will not allow anyone to encroach on the maintenance of law and order in West Bengal…"
