Vedanta Oil & Gas swings to ₹945 crore Q1 profit after one-time gain

Vedanta Oil & Gas reported a consolidated net profit of ₹945 crore for the June quarter, reversing from a loss of ₹476 crore in the preceding quarter, due to an exceptional gain from the slump sale of certain businesses. Revenue from operations, however, declined 3.1% sequentially to ₹2,507 crore from ₹2,588 crore.

The company's Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) fell 7.7% quarter-on-quarter to ₹814 crore from ₹882 crore, while the EBITDA margin narrowed to 32.5% from 34.1% in the March quarter.

During the quarter, Vedanta Oil & Gas recognised an exceptional gain of ₹1,056 crore from the slump sale of its Power, Nicomet and Coke businesses. This was partly offset by an exceptional loss of ₹441 crore, including a ₹379 crore impairment provision related to the Cambay block and ₹62 crore of demerger-related costs.

The company said it reassessed the carrying value of assets related to the Cambay block after the Delhi High Court upheld the government's decision rejecting the extension of the Production Sharing Contract (PSC). Vedanta Oil & Gas has filed an appeal before a division bench of the High Court, and the matter remains sub judice.

The June quarter was also the first reporting period following the demerger of Vedanta's oil and gas business into Vedanta Oil & Gas, which became effective on May 1, 2026. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas approved the demerger on July 24, 2026.
