Usha Vance drops new family photos, introduces newborn son Alec Neel Vance

US Vice-President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance on Friday shared the first family photographs of their newborn son, Alec Neel Vance, days after announcing his birth.

The couple released images of their family of six, introducing Alec alongside his siblings — Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

Announcing the birth earlier this week, JD Vance said both mother and child were doing well. "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother," he wrote on social media, thanking the doctors and staff at Walter Reed Military Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for their care.

According to reports, the Vance family plans to spend more time in rural northern Virginia, where they have leased part of a multimillion-dollar property in the affluent town of Middleburg.

While the vice-president and his family will continue to maintain their official residence at the Naval Observatory, the rental is intended to provide Usha Vance and the children with a greater sense of privacy away from the public attention that comes with life in Washington.

'EVERYTHING WE DO IS IN PUBLIC EYE'

Speaking in a recent interview with ABC News, Usha Vance reflected on raising children while serving as the nation's second lady, saying that every aspect of their family life is closely watched.

"Everything that we do is in the public eye," she said, adding that she and her husband try to protect their children from unnecessary public exposure. "We try to keep most of what they do private, but when we are in public with them, we just let them be kids."

Usha Vance, 40, stepped away from her legal career after her husband became vice-president. Since then, she has frequently accompanied him at official engagements while also championing childhood literacy through initiatives such as a nationwide summer reading challenge and a related podcast.

The birth of Alec Neel Vance is historically significant. The last recorded instance of a second lady giving birth while her husband was in office was in 1870, when Ellen Maria Colfax, wife of Vice-President Schuyler Colfax, welcomed their son, Schuyler Colfax III.
