A Pennsylvania man who admitted to killing and beheading his father before uploading a video of the severed head to YouTube has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Justin D Mohn, 33, was found guilty on Friday by Bucks County Judge Stephen A Corr for the murder of his 68-year-old father, Michael Mohn, at their home in Levittown last year.

The verdict and sentencing followed Mohn’s chilling testimony, during which he described the killing in graphic detail.

Mohn told the court on Thursday that he shot his father and recorded a 14-minute video featuring the severed head.

The footage was later uploaded to YouTube in what Mohn claimed was an attempt to send a political message. The video remained online for several hours before being taken down.

“I knew something such as a severed head would not only go viral but could lessen the violence," Mohn said during his testimony, as his mother wept in the courtroom.

Describing what he claimed was an attempted “citizen’s arrest," Mohn alleged his father committed treason by opposing his political ambitions, which he likened to those of former President Donald Trump. According to Mohn, when his father resisted, he switched to “plan B," asserting he acted in self-defence after his father allegedly reached for a gun.

“I unfortunately had to use deadly force," he said in court. “I would object to calling it murder."

Authorities said Mohn had recently purchased the handgun used in the killing. After the shooting, he used a kitchen knife and machete to decapitate his father, prosecutors told the court. The victim, a respected civil engineer who had worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, died at the scene.

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn called the crime “unimaginable" and said Mohn had shown a “complete and utter lack of remorse."

Mohn was arrested the same day the video was posted, reportedly while attempting to incite others to join him in an anti-government movement. Investigators recovered a USB drive from him containing images of federal buildings and bomb-making instructions.

His lawyer, Steven Jones, argued that the materials were related to Mohn’s work as a fiction writer and not evidence of an actual plot.

The case has drawn widespread attention for its disturbing details and the defendant’s stated motive, which prosecutors argued was grounded in delusional and violent conspiracy theories.
