US President Donald Trump declared the United States the “hottest nation in the world" following the narrow passage of his flagship tax-and-spending legislation in the Senate, calling it proof of unprecedented economic growth and a decisive turnaround from what he described as the “dead nation" inherited from Joe Biden.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Donald Trump celebrated the Senate’s green light to the sweeping “One Big Beautiful Bill Act"- a 940-page package that includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, a $150 billion increase in military spending and funding for his controversial mass deportation program.
“Last year America was a ‘DEAD’ Nation, with no hope for the future, and now it’s the ‘HOTTEST NATION IN THE WORLD!’ MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Donald Trump wrote.
He went on to boast about the impact of the bill, citing soaring growth, record-breaking tariffs and a historic influx of investment.
“Trillions of Dollars are now being invested into the USA, more than ever before… The Tariff money has already arrived and is setting new records! We are growing our way out of the Sleepy Joe Biden MESS… much faster than anyone thought possible," the US President said.
The Senate passed the bill in a 50-50 split, with US Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. The outcome came after Senate Majority Leader John Thune persuaded two wavering Republican moderates to vote in favor. Donald Trump, who had set a July 4 deadline for the bill’s passage, praised Republican unity and warned lawmakers not to “let the Radical Left Democrats push you around."
While Trump hailed the legislation as “one of the most successful pieces of legislation ever passed," critics have flagged serious concerns. The bill proposes up to $1.2 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, potentially stripping health coverage from nearly 8.6 million low-income and disabled Americans. It also rolls back billions in green energy tax credits- including for electric vehicles- drawing sharp criticism from environmental groups.
Democrats and progressive activists have also slammed the mass deportation funding as “inhumane and dangerous," while health care advocates warn of a looming crisis if Medicaid protections are gutted.
Despite the pushback, Donald Trump maintained that the bill will be a cornerstone of his second-term economic legacy. He wrote, “Nobody wants to talk about GROWTH but this will be the primary reason that the Big, Beautiful Bill will be one of the most successful pieces of legislation ever passed."
