Overnight Ukrainian drone strikes hit warehouses, an oil depot and other sites in Russia, leaving eight people dead and more than 60 injured. Kyiv said the attacks targeted logistics used to supply sanctioned components, underscoring its deep-strike campaign inside Russia.
Eight people were killed and more than 60 were wounded in overnight Ukrainian drone attacks in Russia, Russian officials said on Saturday. The strikes hit warehouse sites linked to major online retailer Wildberries, an oil depot and other locations, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said long-range strikes had hit two key logistical facilities.
Kyiv has continued its aerial campaign against energy infrastructure and military-linked targets inside Russia as the war enters its fifth year. Zelenskyy said on Telegram that Ukrainian strikes hit two "significant logistical facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions" and added, "These facilities were used by the aggressor to supply sanctioned components for the production of drones and navigation equipment." He also said that an oil facility was hit.
According to Russian officials, two large Wildberries warehouses were struck overnight by Ukrainian drones. One was in Kotovsk in the Tambov region, about 360 km from the Ukrainian border, and the other was in Elektrostal, around 50 km east of Moscow. Both caught fire. Wildberries founder Tatyana Kim said later on Saturday morning that the fire in Kotovsk had been put out. Images and videos published by Russian online outlets showed a major fire at the Elektrostal facility, with large plumes of smoke rising above it.
A Ukrainian drone also hit an oil depot in Noginsk, just north of Elektrostal, causing a fire and leading to evacuations from a nearby maternity hospital and a residential building, Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov said. Vorobyov also said drone debris hit a kindergarten building in Elektrostal, causing a fire that was later extinguished.
Tambov regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said seven night shift workers were killed at the Kotovsk warehouse and 25 others were wounded. Vorobyov said 37 people were wounded in the Moscow region and one of them later died in hospital. In Vladimir, about 180 km east of Moscow, a Ukrainian drone hit a residential building and caused a brief fire, but there were no casualties, governor Alexander Avdeyev said.
Zelenskyy also said Ukrainian special operations had carried out strikes on targets in the Sea of Azov and in occupied territory. Overall, the Russian Defence Ministry said its air defences intercepted 379 Ukrainian drones overnight over 19 Russian regions, as well as Crimea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, in an attack that left eight dead, more than 60 injured and several sites damaged.
