A Ukrainian delegation will be meeting US officials in Florida, on Sunday for the latest round of talks on the US-backed plan to end Russia-Ukraine war.
According to CNN, the US delegation will include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
This comes as six people were killed and dozens injured in a Russian attack on Ukraine. A drone attack outside Kyiv on Saturday night killed one person and 11 injured, the regional governor said.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian security source has said Kyiv had attacked on two oil tankers off Turkey’s Black Sea coast that was covertly transporting sanctioned Russian oil.
The Guardian reported that the talks slated on Sunday are expected to focus on details of a draft framework to end the war, more than three years after Russian forces launched their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Ukraine has sought international security guarantees as part of any agreement to end the war and a ceasefire based on the current frontlines. It also rejected giving any part of its non-occupied territory.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the war would only end “once Ukrainian troops withdraw from the territories they occupy".
Last weekend, US Secretary of State met Ukrainian delegation in Geneva. However since then, the lead Ukrainian negotiator, Andriy Yermak, has resigned amid a corruption scandal.
During the Geneva meeting, the US’s 28-point plan was amended and brought down to 19-point plan.
CNN quoted Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov saying last week: “This isn’t an official one, but we do have the document. We haven’t discussed it with anyone yet because the points in it require truly serious analysis and discussion".
Last Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had used nearly 1,400 attack drones, 1,100 guided aerial bombs, and 66 missiles in attacks.
