Ukraine said it struck the Titan-Barrikady military plant in Volgograd. The attack underlined Kyiv's push to raise costs for Russia while Sumy mourned another civilian death.

Ukraine said it had struck a major industrial facility in the Russian city of Volgograd, while a Russian drone attack killed a 66-year-old man in Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region overnight. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the target in Volgograd was a key military-industrial site.
The developments came as Ukraine stepped up its long-range aerial attacks on Russian military industries and energy facilities, saying it aims to reduce Moscow's revenue for the war and make Russians feel the consequences of the invasion, now in its fifth year.
Writing on X, Zelenskyy said FP-5 Flamingo missiles hit the Titan-Barrikady facility in Volgograd in southwestern Russia. He described it as a "major industrial complex" where Russia "produces artillery systems and specialised military equipment, including components for missile launch systems".
Ukraine's General Staff said the facility manufactures equipment for missile systems, including self-propelled launchers and transport-loading vehicles for the Iskander-M missile system. It said this was "the same system Russia regularly uses to strike Ukrainian cities".
Volgograd regional governor Andrei Bocharov confirmed an attack on a business in the Krasnooktyabrsky district of the region. He said 10 people were wounded and taken to hospital, and that production facilities at the site were damaged, but he did not identify the company.
The strike followed what appeared to be one of Kyiv's biggest drone assaults since the Kremlin's full-scale invasion more than four years ago. Russia's Defence Ministry said on Friday that a major nighttime attack targeted a dozen Russian regions, Russian-held Crimea and the surrounding seas, and that Russian air defences intercepted 660 Ukrainian drones.
Zelenskyy said on Thursday that he had ordered "a 40-day influence operation", which appeared to mean an escalation of attacks, aimed at "compelling (Russia) to end the war" after US peace efforts over the past year yielded no breakthrough.
In Sumy region, regional head Oleh Hryhorov said a 66-year-old man was killed overnight in a Russian drone strike on a private residence. The latest attacks saw Ukraine target a major Russian military manufacturing site while Russia struck a civilian home in northeastern Ukraine.
