The US President Donald Trump-led administration has asked about 60 countries that want permanent spot on his Gaza board of peace to contribute at least $1 billion.
Bloomberg quoted a draft charter for the proposed group stating: “Each Member State shall serve a term of no more than three years from this Charter’s entry into force, subject to renewal by the Chairman. The three-year membership term shall not apply to Member States that contribute more than USD $1,000,000,000 in cash funds to the Board of Peace within the first year of the Charter’s entry into force."
A US official said that while members would be able to join for free, the $1 billion fee would grant permanent membership. The board will ensure almost every dollar raised is used to execute its mandate, the official added.
Trump on Thursday announced the formation of a Gaza board of peace, describing it as a key Phase Two step in a US-backed plan aimed at ending the war in the region.
According to the plan, the board would oversee a technocratic committee responsible for managing Gaza’s day-to-day affairs as part of a broader ceasefire framework.
The Board of Peace was first proposed by Trump in 2024 as a transitional authority that would oversee Gaza’s reconstruction and supervise a technocratic panel of Palestinian administrators.
The board is described in the charter as “an international organization that seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict".
On Saturday, he unveiled the list of people appointed to the Board of Peace with US State Secretary Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair as the founding members of the peace board.
Additionally, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, President of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will be part of the Board of Peace, the White House said in a statement.
President Trump will chair the Board of Peace. He has appointed Aryeh Lightstone and Josh Gruenbaum as senior advisors, charged with leading day-to-day strategy and operations, and translating the Board’s mandate and diplomatic priorities into disciplined execution.
Additionally, Nickolay Mladenov, an Executive Board member, will serve as the High Representative for Gaza and act as the on-the-ground link between the Board of Peace and the Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
According to the draft charter, the Board of Peace would convene voting meetings at least annually and “at such additional times and locations as the Chairman deems appropriate".
