The Trump administration’s flagship tax legislation, popularly dubbed the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’, is set for a name change. Months after using the label to promote the sweeping tax cuts, President Donald Trump expressed his desire to rebrand the bill during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, citing the need to better communicate its benefits to working-class Americans.
Trump emphasised that while the original name served its purpose during the bill’s approval process, it lacks clarity for the public. “Last month, in a landmark achievement, I also proudly signed the largest working-class tax cuts in American history. So the bill that — I’m not going to use the term ‘great, big, beautiful’ — that was good for getting it approved, but it’s not good for explaining to people what it’s all about," Trump said. “It’s a massive tax cut for the middle class."
The comments mark the first time Trump has publicly acknowledged the need to rebrand a major policy initiative. It also signals a strategic shift in how he and Republican allies plan to pitch their economic agenda ahead of the crucial 2026 midterm elections. The bill has become a cornerstone of GOP campaign messaging as they look to secure voter support by highlighting tax relief and economic growth.
During the Cabinet session, Trump spoke at length about the legislation, praising its passage through Congress last month. He pointed out that it prevented a looming $4 trillion tax hike set for January, when his 2017 tax cuts were scheduled to expire. “That’s a number nobody ever heard of before," he remarked.

The legislation’s central feature is the permanent extension of Trump-era tax cuts for individuals and small businesses. It also introduces temporary tax breaks designed to deliver on key campaign promises. The Social Security relief will be issued through refunds.
The rebranding decision follows another announcement made by Trump on Monday, in which he reiterated his intention to rename the US Department of Defense. For the third time, he proposed reverting to its pre-1947 name, the ‘Department of War’.
