The European leaders presented their viewpoint to Donald Trump during a multilateral over the Ukraine conflict on Monday, as the US President hinted at a possible resolution over security guarantees for the war-torn country.

Varied points were raised during the historic one-of-its-kind Summit at the White House in Washington DC, in which one notion was common – security for Kyiv.

While French President Emmanuel Macron sought security guarantees for the whole of Europe, not just for Ukraine, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stressed on a ceasefire before next such meeting is held.

However, all of the attending leaders thanked Trump for his efforts towards ending war in Ukraine.

Who Said What?

The French President said that there is a need for a quadrilateral meeting, in which Europe is also represented in the meet with Putin.

“I think as a follow up, we would need probably a quadrilateral meeting. Because when we speak about security guarantees, we speak about the whole security of the European continent," CNN quoted him as saying during the Summit.

Though it seems unlikely that Trump will pay heed to the idea in the near future, yet Macron’s point underlines that they believe the security of not just Ukraine but entire Europe is at stake.

The German leader said that the path is open for more serious negotiations on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but noted that there is a need to work on the ceasefire.

“Now the way is open for complicated negotiations. I can’t imagine that the next meeting will take place without a ceasefire. So let’s work on that," he said.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanked Trump for his willingness to end the Ukraine war.

“It is an important day — a new phase — after three years that we didn’t see any kind of sign from the Russian side that they were willing for dialogue, so something is changing — something has changed — thanks to you," she said.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the Summit “historic" and said that Trump’s indication of “Article-5 style" security guarantees corresponds with work the “Coalition of the Willing" has been doing for the past months, CNN reported.

He said that the coalition is “prepared to step up to the plate" when it comes to ensuring Ukraine’s security.
