US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation on Wednesday, discussing a wide range of bilateral and global issues, hours after Xi’s virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I have just completed an excellent telephone conversation with President Xi of China," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “It was a long and thorough call, where many important subjects were discussed."
Trump said the talks covered “Trade, Military, the April trip that I will be making to China, Taiwan, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the current situation with Iran, the purchase of oil and gas by China from the United States, and the consideration by China of the purchase of additional agricultural products."
He added that the two leaders also discussed “airplane engine deliveries and numerous other subjects, all very positive."
“The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way," Trump said. “I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my presidency having to do with President Xi and the People’s Republic of China."
Chinese state media confirmed the call, saying Xi told Trump that the two countries should work to resolve their differences through dialogue.
“By tackling issues one by one and continuously building mutual trust, we can forge a right way for the two countries to get along," Xi said, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
“Let us make 2026 a year in which China and the United States, as two major countries, move toward mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation," he added.
