US President Donald Trump was greeted with loud boos during the opening of the US Open men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, in his first visit to the New York tournament in a decade.

The 79-year-old president, a regular attendee of major sporting events, has not been to the tournament since 2015, when he was booed by fans at the Billie Jean King Tennis Centre during the Serena vs Venus Williams quarterfinal, amid his 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump faced a mixed reception in the Democrat-leaning New York City as he was greeted with loud boos, along with a few cheers, when he was shown on screen during the match, which was delayed by 30 minutes due to his presence.
