US President Donald Trump claimed that he personally defused rising tensions between India and Pakistan, using trade leverage and a flurry of phone calls to push both nations away from the brink of conflict. Donald Trump said, “The most important of all—India and Pakistan… I ended that with a series of phone calls on trade. I said, if you’re going to go fighting each other, we’re not doing any trade deal."
Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “great friend," calling him “a great gentleman" and “a great man."
“I got them to reason," Donald Trump continued, adding, “I said, we’re not doing a trade deal if you’re going to fight. They said, no, I want to do the trade deal. We stopped the nuclear war."
Donald Trump also claimed credit for helping resolve multiple global conflicts in recent weeks, including tensions between Kosovo and Serbia and the long-standing hostilities between Congo and Rwanda.
“In the last few weeks, we took care of India and Pakistan, Kosovo and Serbia. The Congo is coming in, and Rwanda is coming in; that was a vicious war that went on. We did two others in addition to that. Nobody’s ever done anything like this," Donald Trump said, touting what he described as a flurry of behind-the-scenes diplomatic breakthroughs under his leadership.
