Afghanistan’s Defense Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid dismissed Pakistan’s claims blaming India for tensions in the region as “unfounded, illogical, and unacceptable.”
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Mujahid said that Afghanistan maintains relations with India as an independent nation while also seeking good-neighborly ties with Pakistan.
“Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan serve no one. Our policy will never involve using Afghan territory against other countries,” he said, stressing dialogue and mutual respect as the basis for Kabul-Islamabad relations. He also called on mediators like Turkiye and Qatar to assist in implementing the Doha agreement.
Mujahid warned that failure by Pakistan to honor the agreement could create problems and reiterated that Afghanistan would bravely defend its territory if attacked. He also criticised Pakistan’s labeling of political opponents as “terrorists,” highlighting the lack of a clear definition for the term.
Meanwhile, India’s Technical Mission in Kabul has been upgraded to a full embassy.
