A senior Iranian lawmaker warned that the fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel could collapse without warning as tensions in the region remain dangerously high following last month’s devastating conflict.

“War has not ended, it has only stopped temporarily," Fadahossein Maleki, a member of the Iranian parliament’s Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said, adding, “There is a real possibility it could begin again at any time."

Fadahossein Maleki’s statement comes as Iran remains on high military alert and faces renewed diplomatic strain with the West. The lawmaker also warned that Tehran would reassess its relations with Europe if snapback sanctions- a mechanism that reimposes United Nations penalties over nuclear non-compliance- are revived.

The warning follows a violent, high-intensity conflict that erupted on June 13 when Israel launched a surprise assault on Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure. Israeli delivered a barrage of airstrikes across Iran, significantly damaging Iran’s nuclear capabilities and air defenses. Iran responded with an unprecedented wave of retaliation, launching more than 550 ballistic missiles and 1,000 explosive drones at Israeli cities and military bases.

The United States, initially providing defensive support to Israel, entered the conflict directly on day nine, targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities with airstrikes. Iran retaliated by firing missiles at a US base in Qatar, escalating fears of a wider regional war.

A US-brokered ceasefire was reached on June 24.  Iran’s nuclear program suffered heavy structural damage during the war, particularly at facilities in Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow, but experts have said that Tehran may have evacuated critical enriched uranium stockpiles in advance, limiting the long-term setback to just a few months.
