A 26-year-old man from Telangana died earlier this week after suffering serious injuries in a road accident in the United States. Nithyanand Reddy Gannu alias Nandhu, who hailed from Telangana's Nirmal district, was injured in a devastating accident in Michigan's Ann Arbor on July 18 and later died due to a rare brain condition, according to a GoFundMe page created by his family and friends.
He reportedly earned a Master's degree in Information Systems from Indiana Tech in 2024. According to the GoFundMe campaign, Nithyanand sustained multiple injuries, including a severe fracture that required emergency surgery.
"While his family hoped the surgery would be the first step toward his recovery, he developed a rare and life-threatening condition known as cerebral fat embolism, in which fat droplets from a fractured bone travel through the bloodstream and affect the brain, causing multiple clots," the campaign organisers wrote.
They said Nithyanand could not be saved despite tireless efforts by the doctors and the "countless prayers, love, and support from everyone." They said Nithyanand died on July 22.
The GoFundMe page sought financial support to cover expenses not covered by health insurance, including ICU and other hospital-related costs, as well as the cost of repatriating the body to India.
The campaign managed to collect more than USD 67,000 (approximately Rs 64.7 lakh) by 8.30 am (IST) on Sunday, July 26.
