The Taliban government that rules Afghanistan removed some 140 books by women citing “anti-Sharia and Taliban policies", UK broadcaster BBC said in a report. The new ban also outlaws the teaching of human rights and sexual harassment.

The broadcaster in its report said that books titled “Safety in the Chemical Laboratory", written by a woman, were among 680 books found to be of “concern". The hardline Islamists said flagged “anti-Sharia and Taliban policies" in these titles.

Universities were also instructed that they were no longer allowed to teach 18 subjects. A Taliban official told the BBC that the practice was “in conflict with the principles of Sharia and the system’s policy".

Earlier this week, Taliban banned fibre-optic internet in at least 10 provinces following orders from Taliban’s “Supreme Leader". The “Supreme Leader" said that this was to prevent immorality.
