Janata Dal (S) leader HD Revanna on Monday called alleged sex scandal case, in which he along with his son Prajwal Revanna has been named in the FIR, a “conspiracy” and confirmed that his son has gone abroad.
HD, the MLA from Karnataka’s Holenarasipura and son of former PM H D Deve Gowda, said that it would the decision of the JD(S) to expel Prajwal. He further said that the videos which are being circulated are 4-5 years old.
“I know what kind of conspiracy is going on. I am not someone who will get scared and run away. They have released something that was 4-5 years old. Expelling him from the party is left to the party high command. The State government is theirs. Let them investigate,” the JD(S) leader said.
The senior JD(S) leader said Prajwal did not know about the FIR as he was anyway going out of the country.
“Prajwal was anyway going to go abroad. He didn’t know FIR was going to be filed against him. For the last 40 years under Congress, we have faced several investigation. I haven’t spoken to Deve Gowda on this. Will take action according to law,” he added.
Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, 33, reportedly fled to Germany as soon as the video clips were found circulating in the district days before polling in Hassan in the second phase on April 26.
The Karnataka government ordered a SIT probe into the matter after the request from the State Commission for Women, which claimed that many women were found to have been allegedly “sexually assaulted” by the MP.
Revanna’s election agent, in a complaint filed in Hassan, called it “morphed” and “an attempt to malign his name by those who are opposed to him with malicious intent”.
As the politics heat up over the issue, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy apparently distanced himself from the controversy saying this is the matter of Revanna’s family and he has nothing to do with it.
“…who released it (videos) 3 days ago and why was it not released earlier? why the old issue has been released at the time of the election… SIT has been formed, let the truth come out and anyone who commits a mistake will have to face the consequences as per the law of the land. In Hassan’s election, our candidate (Prajwal Revanna) will win. Everyone says that…I ask the Congress leaders why are you bringing the family name into this, talk about the individual, this is not a family issue…this is the matter of Revanna’s family, we have nothing to do with it. They live separately…,” the former CM said.
