Several Law Enforcement Officers Shot In Southern Virginia's Pittsylvania County

A police official said warrants were being served at a home when multiple law enforcement officials were reportedly shot.

Multiple law enforcement officers have been shot in southern Virginia, said US Congressman John McGuire on Wednesday (local time). McGuire said his thoughts and prayers were with deputies shot in Pittsylvania County, as pictures showed a large number of parked police and emergency response vehicles.

According to a public official who was briefed on the situation but asked not to be named, warrants were being served at a home when the shooting took place, according to KGNS TV.

The deputies suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the reported shooting, but a SWAT team had to help the victims out of the house.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the deputies who were shot in Pittsylvania County, as well as their families. We are closely following the situation and keeping everyone affected in our hearts during this difficult time," said McGuire on X.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Troopers. Further information is awaited.

This follows growing incidents of shootings in the United States, which are quite frequent in the country due to the easy and widespread availability of guns.

Earlier, a horrific shooting at a Target store in North Austin, Texas, left at least three people dead and several others injured. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the suspect stole a vehicle and attempted to flee the scene after shooting several people in the parking lot, but crashed the vehicle.

Prior to that, at least three people were injured in New York’s Times Square, one of city’s most popular tourist places, on Saturday after gunshots were reportedly fired following a verbal dispute, sparking chaos and panic in the area.

A 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody and a firearm was seized from his possession. The incident at one of New York’s most iconic tourist spots comes after July’s high-profile shooting in a Manhattan office tower, which left four people dead, including a senior Blackstone executive and an NYPD officer.
