Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: The markets are on a volatile path; the indices are under pressure. The Nifty is down over 80 points, falling below the 23,300 mark. Nifty Bank is down 300 points, falling to 53,300. Eicher Motors, Powergrid and Shriram Fin are top losers.
Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: The Nifty 50 is down 800 points in the last two sessions. The bulls would first look to arrest this four-day losing streak, which has dragged the index below key supports and into oversold territory. There are news triggers to react to this morning.
First, the increase in customs duty for gold, silver and other precious metal imports. Second, a 13-month high inflation print, and third, of course, the results. There is no let-up in oil prices, which remain near the $108 a barrel mark.
The currency, which continues to make new lows, is threatening to test levels of 96 against the USD. The first task for the Nifty bulls will be to reclaim 23,500 and sustain above that. On the downside, 23,200 and 23,000 will be the next important levels.
The Nifty Bank knocked off another 800 points and has lost nearly 4,000 points from the April 21 high. Jewellery stocks remain in focus along with result reactions from Dr. Reddy's, Dixon, Tata & Torrent Power among others. Cipla, Bharti Airtel, PFC, HPCL report results today.
